Derby 9 - Lincoln Imps 6
The Lincolnshire Imps Youth Darts Team started the 2009/10 season with an unlucky result against Derby. The final result of 9 - 6 to Derby does not represent how tight some of the games were or how well the team played.
In the under 18’s section new signing Callum Dixon opened for the Imps and in his debut performances his nerves got the better of him and he went down 2-0 to Derby’s Josh Cowley. The next game saw Jake Wiles loose 2-1 in a game that could have gone either way. The problem being that after scoring tremendously Wiles was unable to find the finishing double bending and scraping the wire on numerous occasions allowing Alan Hunt to check out.
Another new signing Marcus Purdy’s also fared no better in his debut game and came off the stage 2-1 down to Mathew Moore. At 3-0 down in games the newly elected captain Ross Twell played a cracking game recording a man of the match average of 22.24 against Jack Hotchin in his 2-1 victory.
This stemmed the tide and the next two games went in the Imps favour with Liam Hunter recording a cracking 21.78 average in his 2-0 win and Thomas Lovely demonstrating consistent throwing and crisp finishing in his 2-1 victory. In the next game Shaun Seymour was unfortunate to post a higher average than Billy Upton but still not gain the point for the Imps losing out 2-0. The final score for the under 18’s 4-3 to Derby.
The ladies were probably more unlucky than the men, new signing for Imp’s, Casey Horspool was drawn against Josie Paterson. Not the easiest of games and even harder on your debut. Casey threw some brilliant darts and took the first leg. Paterson won the second leg without much of an argument from Horspool who could have gone on to win the game had it not been for shaving the wire on the final double allowing Paterson to check out. This was a cracking game to watch and it is pity there has to be a second place. Casey will certainly be an asset to the team. Following her onto the stage was Heather Bishop who made short work of Kerri Buckley and could have been far more devastating had she finished a little slicker. The win did give Heather the woman of the match award.
Last up for the ladies was Holly McQueen and although she managed to take the second leg never really looked like taking the game. Derby won 2-1.
The Under 21’s section was last and did not disappoint. Chris Fidler had a good day at the office and was rewarded with a 2-1 win and a respectful 18 plus average. Fidler will not be pleased with his performance but a win is a win and a point for the team. Aiden Forman lost a scrappy first leg but came back not only to register a maximum 180 but also finished the last two legs with 93 and 96 checkouts respectively. Had it not been for the first leg Forman’s average would have well above the 21.00 he recorded.
The remaining members of the under 21’s side were all very unlucky to loose their matches. But again it came down to the inability to put the dart between the double wires.
Lewis Wiles threw a cracking 19 dart first leg only to loose 2-1. Daniel Baker and Lee Bingham both struggled and none were more disappointed than themselves.
This was a below par performance from the Imps and they can do much better. Their next game is away to Leicester on October the 25th followed by a home fixture on Sunday November 22nd against Warwickshire at the Mabern Club, Sleaford, starting at 12.00hrs
All support would be welcome and if you are a dart player and under the upper age limit of 21 come along and see if you could make the Imps Squad.
